For this weeks Lens Artist Challenge, we were encouraged by Tina to pick a place that holds special memories for us. This was no easy task – every place seems to be memorable!
I haven’t posted anything about a backpacking trip I took a little over a year ago, so thought I’d highlight it with this challenge. Sometimes the most memorable trips are the most painful! This was slightly painful only because of hiking in deep sand and on rocky terrain.
I LOVE to backpack….something about it makes me feel like I can tackle anything that comes my way. In May of 2018, the Lost Coast of California was calling my name. Adventures off the beaten path and with very few others within ear shot, are some of the best vacations for me. I will most likely never make it back to this part of California, but the memories will stick with me for the rest of my life.
If you haven’t heard of the Lost Coast, the Wonderland Guides Group describes this area better then I ever could:
“The Lost Coast is a stretch of Northern California coastline so rugged that roads have not conquered it. The remoteness is a rare respite from the rest of the state. There are no mansions tucked along hillsides or congested lines of traffic winding along the cliffs. Here crumbling gashes of the King Range tower from the sea, blocking the way of everyone not on foot.

We hiked along the sandy beaches….this was WAY harder than I thought it would be!

We built a cozy fire every evening after a long day of hiking!

We had the trails to ourselves throughout most of the trip!
We hiked over more rocks than I care to mention! (kankle twisters)

We saw plenty of wildlife! We actually saw whales too, but my iPhone couldn’t take a meaningful image.
We found some sweet campsites!
A very small part of the hike involved some minor bouldering! It was tough but the entire group finished together!
Grateful for the whole experience.
Cheers,
Pam
Great choice Pam and I loved your images. Have been nearby but never there. What an amazing thought that there is still a wild side to the CA coast👍👍

Thank you!! It’s one of those places you can’t experience unless on foot – grateful I had the opportunity 🙂

You really do come up with some out-of-the-ordinary destinations and activities! I love it! The sand walking does look really tough, especially with a pack on, but the bouldering looks super fun! 🙂

Also, I have a friend who is a mobile vet in your town. She is amazing. She may have some ideas on what to do with travel, etc.

Oh, awesome. Will get info soon – had to book a total stranger for this weekend (yeah, terrible timing on pet adoption).

She worked with me at EY in technology and then decided to go to vet school. She went to A&M….top school in the country and graduated numero uno in her class. So not only is she smart, she is so much fun and an amazing person. Lives near you. In fact I need to see her before I leave town. LMK when u are ready. 😊

Fantastic photos!
So pretty I wish I did that hike… only not!!!! Walking in the sand and rocks with that much on your back? Are you mad?!
If donkeys or porters are available, it definitely looks like a dream place. 😉

Ha! Thanks lady! It was soooo much fun. You would have loved it even without donkeys!

A minor (positive) shock to me that there are such places left! Loved to tag along in your footsteps – looks like a place lonely enough for me!
